How I Prep for a Cozy Day at Home

There’s something really comforting about waking up and knowing I don’t have to be anywhere. No rushing, no real agenda—just a slow day at home to breathe, reset, and be present. These are the days I look forward to the most, especially right now as I prepare for baby boy’s arrival in July. Home just feels extra sacred lately.
Here’s how I like to ease into a cozy day at home:
Letting the Morning Be Slow- I try not to reach for my phone right away. Instead, I’ll open the blinds a little and let the soft morning light fill the room. I light a candle and a put a cozy playlist on—something acoustic or instrumental that sets a peaceful tone.
Making My Morning Coffee- This is one of my favorite parts of the day. I usually go for an iced half-caff from my Nespresso with a splash of milk and my cookie dough creamer (seriously, so good). I sip it usually sitting on the couch with a blanket or out on my back patio. It’s simple, but it grounds me.
Light Tidy, Not Deep Cleaning- I’m not in full chore mode on cozy days, but I do like to reset the space just a little—fluff the pillows, wipe the counters, maybe start a load of laundry. It helps the house feel calm and makes it easier for me to fully relax.
Baking Something (Even If It’s Just Boxed Mix Cookies)- There’s something about having something warm in the oven that makes the house feel extra homey. I don’t always bake from scratch—sometimes it’s just a cookie mix or banana bread. The goal is comfort, not perfection. But right now I am on a homemade pumpkin bread kick.
Spending Time With My Husband and Pup- We’ll usually have a nice lunch together or take our pup outside for some fresh air. Sometimes we’ll watch a show or just sit and chat while music plays in the background. I love these simple little pockets of connection.
Evening Wind Down- As the sun starts to set, I’ll usually light a few more candles, turn off the overhead lights, and start dinner. If it’s cool out, I’ll sit on the deck and watch the sky change colors and open the windows. It’s the perfect way to end a quiet day.
Cozy days at home aren’t anything fancy, but they fill me up in the best way. They remind me that slow living doesn’t mean doing nothing—it means being more present for the things that matter.
If you’re needing a reset or just a soft place to land, I hope you get a cozy day at home soon too.
